Information Publication Scheme

The Information Publication Scheme (IPS) aims to transform the freedom of information framework from one that responds to individual requests for access to documents, to one that requires Australian Government agencies to take a proactive approach to publishing information.

Agency plan

In accordance with the scheme, the Department of Industry's Agency Plan provides guidance on how the Department will publish information.

IPS categories

As detailed in the plan, the Department will categorise information consistently across all Departmental websites, using the structure below.

Who we are

Our organisation chart, employment agreements, information about statutory appointments and contact information.

What we do

Guidelines, practices and precedents relating to functions and our decision making powers for policy and program delivery that affect members of the public.

Our reports

The Department's recent annual reports and a range of other key publications.

Our consultations

Information about the Department's consultation processes, including how submissions may be made by members of the public.

Our strategic and business priorities

The Department's strategic plans, assessments and recent reviews.

Routinely requested information

This will include information that the Department routinely provides in response to freedom of Information (FOI) requests.

The Department will clearly identify these documents in its disclosure log, published under s 11C of the FOI Act - which requires agencies to list information that has been released in response to an FOI access request under the FOI Act.

Our finances

Financial information relating to pay and grading structures, procurement procedures, tendering and contracts.

Our lists

Agency contracts, grants, appointments and links to data sets.

Our submissions

Submissions made by the Department to Parliamentary committees, Industry bodies and other agencies.

Our policies

Any departmental policies that are not published under a mandatory category. This may include our workplace policies, online communications polices and workplace diversity policies.

Freedom of information

Our FOI page explains how you can make a FOI request, the review process, fees and charges and contact information for the FOI Coordinator.

FOI disclosure log

From 1 May 2011, we are required to publish a disclosure log on our website. The disclosure log lists information that has been released in response to an FOI access request for documents held by the Department of Innovation.

Incoming Government Brief

The Department has removed its Incoming Government Brief as more up to date material is now available under the Information Publication Scheme.

However, you may request a copy of the Incoming Government Brief by contacting the Freedom of Information Coordinator on (02) 6102 8104 or email

Incoming Ministers' Briefs

The Department has decided to publish the incoming Ministers' briefs provided to portfolio Ministers appointed in December 2011 and March 2012.

The briefs have been published in keeping with the Freedom of Information Act 1982, with exempt material redacted.

Incoming Secretary Brief

The Department has decided to publish its recent incoming secretary brief.
