Taiwan is an important resources trade and investment partner. It is Australia’s fourth largest export destination for thermal coal and copper, and fifth largest for metallurgical coal. Taiwan also invests in Australian iron ore and coal operations. Australia will continue to grow our relationship with Taiwan through the promotion of trade and investment.

How is the department involved?

The department facilities and communicates with our Taiwanese counterparts on relevant resources policies and initiatives to promote minerals and energy resources trade and investment.

The department engages with Taiwan on minerals and energy matters by participating in the Australia-Taiwan Joint Energy and Minerals Trade and Investment Cooperation Consultations (JEMTIC) to explore areas of mutual understanding and promote cooperation in the resources and energy sectors.
