Working in Partnership

Established in 2001, the Working in Partnership (WIP) initiative aims to support and encourage cultural change in relations between the mining industry and communities (including Indigenous communities), and promote long term, effective partnerships which benefit all stakeholders.

The WIP aims to build effective long term relationships and encourages wider adoption of best practice in relationships between the mining industry, services industries, and communities (including Indigenous communities). In support, 25 workshops have been held around Australia for stakeholders to discuss local opportunities and issues and develop solutions that deliver mutual benefits.

The workshops bring together mining, supplier and community representatives to develop strategies for better community integration of the mining sector and other local industries with a particular focus on building indigenous business capacity.

WIP is part of the Australian Government’s commitment to increase opportunities for Indigenous Australians, noting that the resources sector is one of the few providing employment and business development opportunities for remote communities.
